The Kingdom of Olesnica is a very large, devout nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 186 million are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, pro-business morass -- juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 31%. A robust private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Book Publishing industries.

Scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, all citizens must pass a 'multicultural sensitivity test' to be deemed fit for society, crime suspects are forced to submit to blood testing, and anyone who doesn't attend Official Governmental Religious Services is fined. Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Olesnica's national animal is the silver eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the golden olesnicki.
