The Republic of Old States of America is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by Tyler Ferrari with a fair hand, and notable for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.372 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal individuals juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Rome. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Retail and Arms Manufacturing.

Pristine wilderness has been trashed in the quest for cheaper oil, fur coats have become the latest fashion trend, all streets are privately owned toll roads, and disaster victims are viewed with disdain. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Old States of America's national animal is the Grizzly Bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Roman Dollar.
