The Everlasting Empire of Old North Fish is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by King Bourbon IV with an even hand, and renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 3.875 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Defence, although Education and Commerce are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Metroscale. The average income tax rate is 80%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.
Mining safety laws are often more expensive than what's being mined, a weakened police force struggles to maintain law and order, scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, and Old North Fish's soft-touch approach to diplomacy has made it known as the 'push-over' of the region. Crime is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Old North Fish's national animal is the Northern Speckled Bigfoot, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is no longer specified, and its currency is the International Scale.
Old North Fish is ranked 7th in The Free Interstellar Republic and 60,329th in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 118 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
