The Prosperous Colony of Nova Ponta do Mato is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Eusébio da Silva Ferreira with an iron fist, and renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 3.452 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals concentrates mainly on Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ponta do Mato. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Environmental protestors are being rounded up and taken away in sinister black vans as a massive land development campaign gets underway, it's a common sight to see angry commuters with grenade launchers mounted on their vehicles, conscientious objectors are hanged as traitors, and seafood restaurants assure customers 'If it lives in the sea, it's on our menu'. Crime is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Nova Ponta do Mato's national animal is the koi fish, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Benfica, and its currency is the escudo.

Nova Ponta do Mato is ranked 118th in Portugal and 129,974th in the world for Most Eco-Friendly Governments, scoring -190 on the Dolphin Recycling Awareness Index.
