The Most Serene Republic of Nova Maxima is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Il Magnifico with an even hand, and notable for its parental licensing program. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.056 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Education, although Defence and the Environment are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nova Prime. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 69%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Information Technology and Book Publishing.

Glittering new sports stadiums adorn every city and town, luxury brands target their advertising at the unemployed and homeless, consuming ecstasy is a common rite of passage, and police conduct weekly raids looking for contraband cheeseburgers. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Nova Maxima's national animal is the drake, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Novanism, and its currency is the credit.

Nova Maxima is ranked 4,034th in the West Pacific and 95,316th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -26 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
