The Anarchistic Social Republic of New Xanadu is a massive, cultured nation, remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.728 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, the Environment, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 69%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Furniture Restoration and Tourism.

'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of New Xanadu's radio stations, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, students are known to arrive at school in their pyjamas, and the government now pays the "Really Awesome Super Heroes" (RASH) to catch evildoers. Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Xanadu's national animal is the Cockroach, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Nom De Plume.

New Xanadu is ranked 1,610th in 10000 Islands and 66,163rd in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 110 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
