The Colony of New Tropical Isles is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Jay Myers with an even hand, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. The hard-nosed population of 5.158 billion Tropical Islesians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Shadowville. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Book Publishing and Woodchip Exports.

Parents live in fear of governmental 'child protection' squads, a National Academy regulates grammar and usage, tourists outnumber citizens two to one, and schools have extensive counseling programs for troubled students. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Tropical Isles's national animal is the cat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Christianity, and its currency is the Platinum Dollar.

New Tropical Isles is ranked 7th in SideWalk Zone and 1,387th in the world for Highest Police Ratios, scoring 387 on the Orwell Orderliness Index.
