The Dominion of New Leicestershire is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 11.173 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, pro-business morass -- juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Commerce. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 32%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Information Technology industries.

Guns are banned, a National Academy regulates grammar and usage, inheritance tax has recently been abolished, and school uniforms are compulsory. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Leicestershire's national animal is the Osprey, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the NL Pound.
