The Federal Republic of New Flowcarland is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by Lafter with a fair hand, and notable for its restrictive gun laws. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 1.051 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Gothhflowam. The average income tax rate is 45%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

Politicians have to be granted day-release from prison to speak on bills, the government has ordered a moratorium on referenda, CEOs and corporate executives are frequently found striking for better stock options, and guns are banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. New Flowcarland's national animal is the Bear, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Hoft.
