The Republic of New Colombialand is a massive, devout nation, ruled by Frank Laustano with an even hand, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 4.244 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Vertuaug. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 48%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture, Woodchip Exports, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes, the judicial system legislates morality, the police have reaffirmed their tough stance on drugs, and euthanasia is illegal. Crime is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Colombialand's national animal is the lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the New Colombian Golder.
