The Republic of New Carloso is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Supreme Chancellor Carl Tobin with an even hand, and remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.68 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Carlingford. The average income tax rate is 87%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

New safety regulations require all cars manufactured in New Carloso to be bombproof, children are raised bilingual from an early age, all tariffs have been abolished, and violently opinionated speakers can be heard preaching their hateful views on every street corner. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Carloso's national animal is the Forest Eagle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Catholisism, and its currency is the dero.

New Carloso is ranked 16th in The ACSN and 97,494th in the world for Most Extreme, scoring 11 on the Paul-Nader Subjective Decentrality Index.
