The Protectorate of New Boltor is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.865 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

The large, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Boltor City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 18%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Pizza Delivery, Book Publishing, and Uranium Mining industries.

New Boltor's navy has been named the scourge of the seven thousand seas, truth is often impossible to tell from fiction on the evening news, scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, and most of the nation's wealthy aristocrats are dentists. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. New Boltor's national animal is the Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Taco.
