The Fiefdom of Nanpantan is a massive, safe nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 3.158 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is effectively ruled by the Department of Law & Order, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 36%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

Political activists are routinely executed, Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed, employers may fire workers without giving any reason, and gambling is outlawed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Nanpantan's national animal is the deer, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Pound.
