The Republic of Murphdar is a huge, economically powerful nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 961 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Healthcare and Social Welfare are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Murphdar City. The average income tax rate is 82%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Soda Sales.

There has been a series of riots between local cannibals and health food advocates, a determined opposition debates the relative benefits of Arial and Times New Roman for days on end, almost half of the child population live rough on the streets, and a government program is underway to revitalize Murphdar's beaches. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Murphdar's national animal is the Wild Rover, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Darren.
