The Lord Protectordom of Montopholous is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Montopholous Lemmini with a fair hand, and remarkable for its ban on automobiles. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 6.591 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Social Welfare and the Environment are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Organised sports are frowned upon as frivolous, same-sex marriages are increasingly common, the recently unemployed can often be seen at the local homeless shelter, and euthanasia is legal. Crime is totally unknown. Montopholous's national animal is the Lemming, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Pound.
