The Kingdom of Monte Mare is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by King Alexander IV with an even hand, and renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5.066 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Defence, although Law & Order and Healthcare are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Monte Mare City. The average income tax rate is 73%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Gambling.

X-Files ratings have hit an all-time low, Monte Mare has been recently classified as an international menace after 'liberating' several nearby territories, protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations, and the government is attempting to impose a new national language on the public. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Monte Mare's national animal is the white Hawk, and its currency is the Euro.

Monte Mare is ranked 23rd in The Alliance of Grittonia and 79,936th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -23 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
