The Dictorial Heartland of Monlyth is a huge, cultured nation, renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 740 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Corpotle. The average income tax rate is 86%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Soda Sales, Tourism, and Book Publishing industries.

The government is avowedly atheist, the government is cutting back on the number of political prisoners executed each year, the government has instituted 'traveller reservations' across the country, and Monlyth has one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Monlyth's national animal is the Alligator, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Varuct.

Monlyth is ranked 281st in The Kingdom of Denmark and 70,460th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -15 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
