The Simian Bot Sanctuary of Monkeh Shines is a colossal, genial nation, remarkable for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 6.804 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sock Puppet Park. The average income tax rate is 94%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The government has cut taxes in the face of widespread tax evasion, the average commuter spends four hours a day driving to and from work, the government is frequently held to ransom by the increasing demands of bloodthirsty pirates, and it is a crime to offend someone's religious beliefs. Crime is totally unknown. Monkeh Shines's national animal is the lemur, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the guava.

Monkeh Shines is ranked 100th in Ulthar and 100,780th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -50 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
