The Forge of Mondus Occulum is a massive, devout nation, ruled by Fabricator Locum Marius with an iron fist, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.442 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Spire Delta. The average income tax rate is 97%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.

Frequent fliers are obliged to submit to invasive security procedures by government security, the government has started a campaign to crack down on road rage and encourage alternate means of commuting, a crusade against barbaric religious practices has begun, and citizens must pay to enjoy Mondus Occulum's pristine beaches. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Mondus Occulum's national animal is the Servitor, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Cult of the Machine God, and its currency is the Credit.

Mondus Occulum is ranked 2nd in Warhammer 40000 and 2,381st in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring 27 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
