The Republic of Mitkeland is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Leader with a fair hand, and notable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.015 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Education, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Whitefall. The average income tax rate is 51%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Book Publishing and Beef-Based Agriculture.

The government has declared its commitment to multilateralism, smoking is banned in public areas, Mitkeland's heavy congestion charges are the bane of motorists' lives, and Leader has just been declared ruler of Mitkeland in an international press conference. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Mitkeland's national animal is the Phailfox, and its currency is the Mitkel Pound.
