The Jingoistic States of Mission de Abortus is a massive, devout nation, ruled by Baron Erdrick von Odlaw with an even hand, and notable for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 3.22 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Phlan. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 37%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Beef-Based Agriculture.

The mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, emergency room admissions for 'stampede injuries' have skyrocketed since the introduction of weekly Sabbath Eve sales, the government funds private schools for intellectually gifted children, and prospective parents are cheering on the streets as they no longer need a license to have children. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Mission de Abortus's national animal is the fox, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the guilder.
