The Republic of Milgram Alpha is a massive, genial nation, ruled by President Carl Niklas Axelsson with an even hand, and remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate population of 4.407 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Bacardi Razz. The average income tax rate is 74%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

Inter-species marriages are ignored by the government, citizens are more concerned about voting for Big Brother contestants than politicians, all guns must be registered, and an increasing percentage of the population's youth have homosexual parents. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Milgram Alpha's national animal is the wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the sek.

Milgram Alpha is ranked 1,016th in the South Pacific and 24,146th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -10 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
