The Former Texian Republic of Metropolitan Houston is a colossal, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by the TimeDrifter with a fair hand, and remarkable for its national health service. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 8.499 billion enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 77%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The MHBI Channel Tunnel project is plagued by delays, citizens are regularly found digging for treasure in their gardens, the government is pouring money into 'Operation Enduring Democracy', and commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Metropolitan Houston's national animal is the Raven, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Texian Dollar.
