The Five Kingdoms of Melkor Unchained is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Konrad Althalon IV with an iron fist, and renowned for its suspicion of poets. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 19.684 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Daturias. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 34%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Gambling.

Corporations cut costs by taking away safety-features on their products, the lowest age at which one can marry has been recently lowered to 12, the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, and the country is preparing for war. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Melkor Unchained's national animal is the ratel, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the sovereign.

Melkor Unchained is ranked 2nd in Arda and 95,264th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -1,299 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
