The Five Kingdoms of Melkor Unchained is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by Konrad Althalon IV with an iron fist, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 22.479 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Daturias. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 65%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Gambling.

Scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, children as young as twelve are conscripted into the armed forces, Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes, and conscientious objectors are hanged as traitors. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Melkor Unchained's national animal is the ratel, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the sovereign.
