The Five Kingdoms of Melkor Unchained is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Konrad Althalon IV with an iron fist, and renowned for its complete lack of public education. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 25.884 billion Ardans are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Daturias. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 75%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Information Technology.

Scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, cyber-crime and tin-foil hat sales are both increasing at record rates, mantis shrimp studies is academia's fastest growing field, and Daturias is a police state during international summits. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Melkor Unchained's national animal is the ratel, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the sovereign.

Melkor Unchained is ranked 1st in Arda and 110th in the world for Largest Soda Pop Sector, scoring 26 on the Addison-Fukk Productivity Rating.
