The Constitutional Monarchy of Matosland is a huge, economically powerful nation, ruled by Don Angel Rafael with an even hand, and renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 996 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Charlotte. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 66%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Tourism, and Book Publishing industries.

Protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations, skateparks can be found in every city, glittering new sports stadiums adorn every city and town, and corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Matosland's national animal is the Coqui, and its currency is the Boricua.
