The Matriarchy of Marsbarlandia is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Cara Meland Nougat with a fair hand, and notable for its hatred of cheese. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.718 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Greater Douglasadamsburgh. The average income tax rate is 96%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The nation has welcomed its expats back with open arms, welfare funding has recently gone through the roof, national parks have long lines of different gender-specific 'Porta-Pottys', and government officials frequently cut taxes as a distraction from antics with their secretaries. Crime is totally unknown. Marsbarlandia's national animal is the Tamarind, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Almond.
