The Constitutional Monarchy of Mardonia is a huge, genial nation, notable for its irreverence towards religion. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 689 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 56%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Almost all of Mardonia's water is piped into the country from abroad for exorbitant prices, children are brainwashed at a young age to accept "Love and peace!" as a way of life, violently opinionated speakers can be heard preaching their hateful views on every street corner, and strict term limits have been applied to all elected offices. Crime is totally unknown. Mardonia's national animal is the Deer, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Dahls.
