The Constitutional Monarchy of Marckou is a massive, genial nation, ruled by his Majesty the king henry v with an even hand, and notable for its museums and concert halls. Its compassionate, cynical population of 1.644 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Defence and Education are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of paris. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 89%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Book Publishing and Information Technology.

The minority party is vilified for everything from fires to earthquakes, anti-government web sites are springing up, motels cater primarily to adulterers, and murder victims' families receive windfall payouts when the murderers are executed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Marckou's national animal is the dog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dracon dollar.

Marckou is ranked 1,209th in the Rejected Realms and 95,226th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -26 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
