The United Sovereign States of Marcheria is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Premier Alben with an even hand, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 2.563 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Education and Law & Order are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Millennia. The average income tax rate is 99%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Gambling, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Birds and children's kites are regularly brought down by anti-aircraft fire, several citizens have complained about scientists abducting their pets for experimentation, the government seizes all major gold finds, and young children are regularly seen wagering pocket money at blackjack tables. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Marcheria's national animal is the Wild Holzer, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Smackeroo.

Marcheria is ranked 17th in Tyrrhenia and 85,277th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -19 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
