The Armed Republic of Mantonio is a colossal, cultured nation, renowned for its hatred of cheese. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 9.558 billion are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Citizens are barcoded to keep track of their movements, dog breeding has been banned in accordance with recent animal experimentation laws, murderers frequently escape punishment by claiming they were protecting their honour, and the government's only official statement on the burning down of Mantonio City was that 'they shouldn't have been so careless'. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Mantonio's national animal is the Bear, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Mant.

Mantonio is ranked 378th in The United Federation and 83,593rd in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -34 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
