The Grand Union of Malacovia is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Prime Minister Arkoz Czeriy with a fair hand, and notable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 6.127 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Defence and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Grân Malaco. The average income tax rate is 95%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

Artists are pillars of society, 'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of Malacovia's radio stations, marketing departments of corporate giants compete to sponsor little league teams, and a survey of the nation's rivers and children has shown that pesticide levels are at an all-time regional high. Crime is totally unknown. Malacovia's national animal is the wolverine, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the malak.

Malacovia is ranked 483rd in Europe and 99,431st in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -37 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
