The Ducal Luitenantschap of Maanenland is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by Alex Jameson with a fair hand, and notable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 14.129 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kingston-Koningstad. The average income tax rate is 24%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Book Publishing and Beef-Based Agriculture.

The nation's massive battleships are often mistaken for islands, skateparks can be found in every city, almost all of Maanenland's water is piped into the country from abroad for exorbitant prices, and museums stand half-empty as all foreign exhibits are returned to their countries of origin. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Maanenland's national animal is the Red Bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Maanenland Pound.

Maanenland is ranked 33rd in Europe and 3,548th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring 20 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
