Overview • PeopleGovernmentEconomyTrendAnalysis

The Republic of Lucanda is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by President Preston Manning with a fair hand, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5.695 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Commerce, with areas such as the Environment and Social Equality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Richmond. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Retail.

Lucanda is building an army to protect its overseas territories, citizens are frequently held up at gunpoint by their local pizza delivery boys, reports of arson have doubled since the introduction of a privatised fire protection service, and the streets are increasingly clogged with poverty-stricken beggars. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a major problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Lucanda's national animal is the Bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Christianity, and its currency is the Lucade.

Lucanda is ranked 581st in Capitalist Paradise and 109,746th in the world for Most Pacifist, scoring -227 on the Lennon-Springsteen Scale.
