The Patricianship of LordVetinari is a massive, safe nation, ruled by The Patrician of Ankh-Morpork with an iron fist, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.234 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The large, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ankh-Morpork. The average income tax rate is 15%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

Scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, expensive lawyers are hired to defend citizens in court for public urination charges against their pets, citizens can be frequently spotted going about their business stark naked, and military spending is on the increase. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. LordVetinari's national animal is the Hippopotamus, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Ankh-Morpork Dollar.
