Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.382 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, heavy industry must go to expensive lengths to dispose of waste, the mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, and mining safety laws are often more expensive than what's being mined. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Little Bohemia's national animal is the Manchurian Crane, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Kalat.
