The Grand Retour of LeSoldat is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by High Priest with an iron fist, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 10.232 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The Manor. The average income tax rate is 99%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Drug distribution is tightly controlled by the government, waste is frequently shipped to other countries, citizens must pay to enjoy LeSoldat's pristine beaches, and the government awards prizes to television shows featuring stereotype-breaking minority roles. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. LeSoldat's national animal is the Kirika, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Soldats Creed, and its currency is the Orange Pekoe.
