The Free Workers Republic of Kvatchdom is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by President Michael Dolceun with a fair hand, and renowned for its restrictive gun laws. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.153 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although the Environment and Social Equality are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kvatch. The average income tax rate is 93%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Book Publishing.
Cars are banned from built-up areas, Kvatchdom is notorious for its citizens' infidelity, crime is on the rise as DNA sampling has been all but outlawed, and pharmacies close down as medicinal drugs are sold freely by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a major problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Kvatchdom's national animal is the Hummingbird, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Euro.
Kvatchdom is ranked 94th in Democratic Socialist Assembly and 97,101st in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -6 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
