The Free Land of Khitai is a huge, socially progressive nation, notable for its complete lack of public education. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 765 million enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

Citizens drive tank-like vehicles with mounted machine guns, X-Files ratings have hit an all-time low, legislators work 24/7 due to an influx of single-issue bills, and murderers frequently escape punishment by claiming they were protecting their honour. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Khitai's national animal is the Silver Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Gold Woolong.
