The Empire of Kelbrid Space is a massive, economically powerful nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working, cynical population of 2.469 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The tiny, corrupt, pro-business government is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are on the agenda. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 8%. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Gambling industry.

Citizens are barcoded to keep track of their movements, citizens are frequently held up at gunpoint by their local pizza delivery boys, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, and organ donation is compulsory. Crime is a problem. Kelbrid Space's national animal is the dwarf star, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the galactic swipe.
