There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Defence, and Commerce. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Retail industry, followed by Book Publishing and Soda Sales.

Truth is often impossible to tell from fiction on the evening news, universities are populated by the spawn of the upper classes, mining is the nation's most dangerous occupation, and violently opinionated speakers can be heard preaching their hateful views on every street corner. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Jokelahoma's national animal is the children with polio, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the LIBERTY DOLLAR.
