Overview • PeopleGovernmentEconomyTrendAnalysis

The United States of Joia is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Monkey monkey with an even hand, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 20.652 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Education and the Environment are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Joia City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 2%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Book Publishing and Arms Manufacturing.

Saturday morning cartoons feature full frontal nudity, inheritance tax has recently been abolished, rag-wearing teachers are often mistaken for homeless people, and Joia is building an army to protect its overseas territories. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Joia's national animal is the house cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.

Joia is ranked 4th in One big Island and 2,452nd in the world for Largest Public Sector, scoring 31 on the Bureaucratic Comprehensiveness Rating Scale Index.
