The Grand Duchy of Jeuno is a huge, cultured nation, renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 573 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Jeuno City. The average income tax rate is 57%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Automobile Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining industries.

The government is promoting multicultural values with the new 'Just Be Nice, OK?' initiative, expensive lawyers are hired to defend citizens in court for public urination charges against their pets, the people are famous throughout the region for their bleached-white teeth, and Mr Happy's Funland has just been named Jeuno's new capital. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Jeuno's national animal is the Chocobo, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Gil.
