The Armed Republic of Jacks Shoe is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Master Jedi Jack with an iron fist, and renowned for its suspicion of poets. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.264 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Dark Fortress. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 22%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Retail.

Society and government have been organized according to a feudal hierarchy, newspapers cannot report anything about politicians without their explicit consent, citizens must pay to enjoy Jacks Shoe's pristine beaches, and university graduates and new home-owners toil in labour camps to work off their debts. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Jacks Shoe's national animal is the Meer Cat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the Scrub.
