The Caliphate of Iznogoud is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Caliph with an iron fist, and notable for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 18.811 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Baghdad. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.

Citizens live in superstitious fear of the mysterious glowing clouds that float over Iznogoud, strange looking men with big red noses are found hiding behind bushes and inside dustbins, the airship business has been driven out of the country by strict regulations and high fines, and tourists outnumber citizens two to one. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Iznogoud's national animal is the camel, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the dinar.

Iznogoud is ranked 76th in Scandinavia and 95,290th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -1,743 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
