The Caliphate of Iznogoud is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by Caliph with an iron fist, and renowned for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 14.666 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, moralistic individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Baghdad. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.

Much of Iznogoud's computer network is controlled by a rampant artificial intelligence, Iznogoud's army is full of two-metre tall super-soldiers, military spending recently hit a new high, and graffiti artists spend lengthy periods of time in jail. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Iznogoud's national animal is the camel, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the dinar.
