The United Kingdom of Isselmere is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by King Henry V with a fair hand, and renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 18.73 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Equality, Education, and Defence. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Daurmont. The average income tax rate is 69%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Information Technology and Automobile Manufacturing.

Extreme political groups are outlawed, the nation's industries are scrambling to switch to biodegradable plastics, citizens are encouraged to report friends, family members or co-workers who seem depressed to the government for "counselling", and colleges adhere to rigid ethnic quotas for admissions. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Isselmere's national animal is the blue-backed erne, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the lethse.

Isselmere is ranked 4th in Haven and 1,184th in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring 11 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
