The Federation of Islas de la Plata is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by President John Brown with an iron fist, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 4.217 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Equality and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Port Independence. The average income tax rate is 80%. A large private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.

Citizens who become homeless are immediately executed, the nation's industries are scrambling to switch to biodegradable plastics, the national Police Academies have dedicated infant wings, and politicians have to be granted day-release from prison to speak on bills. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Islas de la Plata's national animal is the Argentic Elephant, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Argentic Franc.

Islas de la Plata is ranked 3rd in East Pacific and 8,999th in the world for Most Influential, scoring 40 on the Soft Power Disbursement Rating.
