It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Education, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kitten City. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Much of Illyriel's computer network is controlled by a rampant artificial intelligence, a spate of enforced closures has left 'Government FM' as the nation's only radio station, the government is pouring funds into the nation's welfare system, and torture is illegal. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Illyriel's national animal is the Kitty, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Kitten.
