The Grand Socialist Union of Hurr-Durristan is a massive, genial nation, ruled by a democratically elected leader with an even hand, and renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 2.262 billion enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although the Environment and Social Equality are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kiev. The average income tax rate is 98%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Citizens wishing to leave the country must surrender half their wealth to the government, the breathalyser pledge is a traditional part of marriages in Hurr-Durristan, parents live in fear of governmental 'child protection' squads, and citizens are encouraged to report friends, family members or co-workers who seem depressed to the government for "counselling". Crime is totally unknown. Hurr-Durristan's national animal is the Bear, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Tsar.

Hurr-Durristan is ranked 12th in Social Liberal Union and 966th in the world for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring 208 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
