The Holy Empire of House Geaney is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by His Sacred Majesty Paul XII with an even hand, and renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5.771 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Paulville. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Gambling industries.

Criminals are thrown to the Gryphons to repay their debt to society, Members of Parliament are often found living in cardboard boxes, fewer people are bathing as citizens must show ration stamps before they can turn on their faucets, and the armed forces are locked in an expensive and bloody war abroad to stamp out possible terrorists. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. House Geaney's national animal is the Gryphon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is the True Faith, and its currency is the Credit.
