The Federal Republic of Hornetalia is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Chancellor Malakari Vushou with an even hand, and remarkable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 4.685 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Caridia. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 82%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Immigrant herding has become a national pastime, almost all of Hornetalia's water is piped into the country from abroad for exorbitant prices, the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, and small businesses are gobbled up almost daily by corporate giants. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Hornetalia's national animal is the Hornet, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Credit.
